Bucharest Inside the Beltway is pleased to introduce the Colorado creative selected for our inaugural Denver Artist Residency Program! What is this new BiB effort, you may ask? The local artist will receive PR and production support from BiB throughout the 2022-2023 year. ANGELA CHIRILA is the perfect fit to kick off this new program, as she brings Romanian (Moldavian) roots and an urban Denver energy to her work on canvas (as an oil and acrylic painter) and in print (as a published children's book author). Please check out her website: angelachirilaart.com and follow her on Instagram: @angelachirilaart to support her work!
BIO: Angela Chirila is a Moldavian Denver-based artist and author who studied English and Italian at USM (State University of Moldova). After finishing university, she lived in Rotterdam, the Netherlands and then moved to the United States where she has lived for the past eight years. She started painting eight years ago and hasn’t looked back. Angela’s first exhibition “Angela + Irina Art Show” was on display at Gypsy House in Denver, in 2018 where her work was displayed alongside Russian artist Irina Lukina. Angela specializes in Oil and Acrylic Painting and her work reflects freedom, peace, and the relationship between nature and people. When she was a child used to spend her days drawing and sketching without a break. She loved to draw women and nature. She decided to learn how to paint when she was 26 and also started to create illustrations for her books. A lot of her inspiration comes from nature. She is passioned about creating worlds and new dimensions but mostly she loves to create portraits of women that are beautiful in a relatable way.
AUTHOR STATEMENT: I get my inspiration to write from interacting with young children every day, as a school teacher. My first book “What Makes Us Happy” was published in March 2020 and it's a book that teaches little kids and also adults that we need to be more present in the now and appreciate every moment in life. In 2021, I was selected by the Romanian Cultural Institute in New York to present my book as part of the "Romanian Women Voices in North America" series, a partnership with Bucharest Inside the Beltway. My second book is called" My Friend is a Whale" and it is a beautiful story about kids' love for their parents, showing a special relationship shared by a father and daughter.
