"the vision Cristina and Rucsandra had of creatives coming together to create meaningful work is coming to fruition… It’s all happening, friends! Watch this space for more… |
Greetings BIB friends and collaborators! Andra, your friendly USA PRista here.
Fringe is over and another theater season is upon us, so it seems the perfect time to update you on the goings on of Bucharest Inside The Beltway.
We’ve had so many artistic successes in the past year that it’s difficult to know where to even begin! And still, there is so much to which we look forward…
First, Cristina, our Founding Executive Director is mounting a reading of her original play Finally Quiet In my Head, at the Kennedy Center’s Page-To-Stage festival (9/5@ 7:30PM – and it’s free!). Our production of “Finally Quiet” promotes NAMI – the National Alliance on Mental Illness. There are so many members of our community who struggle with these illnesses (including this PRista).“Finally Quiet”, set in SE DC, asks us to open our eyes, recognize and respond with compassion.
Moving on to the next exciting thing in the BIB world… though you may have already read about it in the Washington Post… DISTRICTLAND’s pilot episode is in post-production! Head over to Facebook to keep up with the show’s progress. We have a feeling Russell and team are making something special.
And though the Fringe Festival is over, we are still glowing with pride at our friend and collaborator Star Johnson’s achievements with her award-winning original musical, How To Quit Your Day Job. We couldn’t help but see parallels between DISTRICTLAND’s sell-out run at Fringe in 2014 and Star’s similarly successful run, which included a profile in the Washington Post! We will of course keep you updated as to what is next for How To Quit Your Day Job (we’re excited too!).
So what’s next? We’re developing a new play by Cristina Bejan, Lady Godiva, to be directed by the one and only Ms. Star Johnson. Lady Godiva will premiere in February 2016 at the Mead Theatre Lab. Check in with us on our website for updates on the production – the page is, well, under construction. :)
And what does all of this success mean? It means that we are building a home for unheard creative voices in the District of Columbia. That the vision Cristina and Rucsandra had of creatives coming together to create meaningful work is coming to fruition…
